Since 2006, the Breezy Point Figure Skating Club (BPFSC) has been the premier resource for learning to skate in central Minnesota. BPFSC is a non-profit 501(c)3 organization that teaches over one hundred area children and families the basics of ice skating annually. Our certified staff uses the Learn to Skate USA curriculum to teach skaters of all ages from preschool through adult. Our instructors develop skills from recreational to competitive skating. Every year, BPFSC invites the community to see our skaters in action at our Holiday Exhibition and Annual Spring Ice Show.
ABOUT OUR ORGANIZATION
We currently provide figure skating and hockey lessons for all ages. As well as higher-level skill training, coach-driven private lessons, and club-level programs with semi-annual skill testing.
All of this is offered at a reduced cost in order to encourage our community members to come out and learn to skate. Other community programs offer hourly rates of $20-25 per hour, where we have kept our prices at $14-18 in order for these children to keep their after-school activities without incurring increased financial burden to their families.
Our Skate School program offers lessons for ages 3 to 99. We teach the basic skills of gliding and stopping, spins, jumps, spirals, and more! As the skaters progress from the Snowplow Sam (3-5 years) to basic 6 and from basic 6, the skaters will have the skill set to move on to becoming a club member. As a club member, you are taught and master the more advanced moves. Each level builds upon the previous level's lessons. This program is also for those new to Hockey and need help learning to skate in order to play hockey with one of the community leagues.
In addition to our skate school program, we have the Club programs. The Aspire program (entry level) is for those skaters who want more than just classes and are looking to explore other options. The Aspire program is available to all levels of skaters. Our Aspire skaters are also able and encouraged to compete in local competitions. If they find after one year that they love skating and would like to continue, then they are welcome to join the Club program to further their passion for skating. Our Club program skates anywhere from 2-4 times a week to build skills and prepare to compete in competitions all over the state. We would love to have all of our club skaters attend these competitions, but the costs can be too great for some families. With your help, we will be able to provide scholarships and reduced rates for skaters who are in need.
Another community opportunity event we offer is our Family Skate Night. These events are an open hour of skating where friends, family, and all community members are welcome to join our skate school and club families! Family skate nights are run by our board members and coaches each month. Our fee for this event is $5 per skater or $20 cap for families. On these nights, we provide rental skates, if needed, to each skater as supplies last (included in the entrance price). We have now started offering skate sharpening, which is free to all skate program members, and ask for a free-will donation from our community members for sharpening their skates.
Each year, we hold two ice shows for family, friends, and the public to come and see what our skaters have been learning during their lessons with us. The first show is in December. The December show is where our skaters are able to show family and friends how they have progressed since having only been skating since September, the start of Skate School Sessions. We also have our Club and Aspire girls participate in the December show, as this allows family and friends to see what they will be able to learn as they continue in the program. Our second and biggest show occurs in the Spring, typically in April. This show is themed, has fun costumes, lighting, decorations, a silent auction, and is all around a lot of fun for all the skaters and families. The skaters have so much fun and get to dress up to show off their moves. We have now added a skating buddy number where parents, friends, or a buddy get to skate with their skater and showcase that any age can rock the ice!
